It’s normal to be nervous but it’s not cool. Nervous speakers need a step by step plan to modify their delivery and relax. If they start today, they’ll be ready for their next close-up!
1. The opening and close should be nearly memorized and delivered to faces not the screen. Practice the opening and close twice more than the body.
2. Start with a story that relates to their project. When did you visit the site? Why are you excited about the project? What are the top 3 issues you’ll manage at the start? What big ideas are you bringing to the project? Gesture and move. Gesture and move. These help you breathe, put energy into your voice and give the appearance of being relaxed.
3. Sing. Find a quiet spot and belt out 3 choruses of happy birthday. It will relax tense vocal muscles, open your airway and create a natural volume. Note: every great singer warms up before every performance.
4. Present in tandem with a team member. When you share the stage, it creates a conversational interchange and offers quick breaks as you toss the topic back and forth.
