Nothing takes the place of rehearsal to make a speaker cool and confident. So what does a good speaker do when there isn’t enough time? Go for the “bottom line” and carry these pocket pieces into the room. Practice out loud in the car or step outside to solidify these key pieces in your mind.
One of each
· Your opening line. What will you say to capture their attention?
· Your closing line. What’s your call to action or your big finish?
· Something personal. Highlight what you feel strongly about or a key component.
Two of each
· Positive imagery. Two reasons they’ll listen to you and pay attention.
· Protection. Think of potential disruptions and an action plan for each one.
Three of each
· Key points. Define your 3 main messages.
· Benefits. Pick the top 3 and say them often in the presentation and the Q&A.
· Engagement. Eyes, energy and a toothy grin. Enthusiasm wins the day.
· Questions. Identify both easy and hard and practice your answers out loud.
